Owen, age 4, at dinner: "I would like some more tomatoes."
Me, serving him: "Potatoes."
Owen: "Right. Tomatoes."
Kyle, age 6: "Owen, they're potatoes, not tomatoes."
Owen, slightly indignant: "Yes, I said tomatoes."
Kyle: "Potatoes. Po-ta-toes. Can you say 'po'?"
Owen: "Po."
Kyle: "Now say 'po-ta-toes.'"
Owen: "Po-ta-toes."
Kyle: "Good, Owen!"
(a few minutes pass)
Owen: "May I please have some more tomatoes?"
